Stair Treads Carpet
Stair Treads Carpet is simply carpet used for stair treads, to make stairs non slip and safer. They are often used on both indoor and outdoor stairs.

Since many stairs are pretty slippery, for example indoor hardwood stairs and outdoor stairs that may get wet, dirty, or snowy/icy, the use of stair treads is pretty common.
Besides making stairs safer, they also can add or complement the décor, as well as protect the stairs from wear and tear and accidental dings, scrape and chips.
Stair treads are not only made of carpet, but are commonly made of other materials like rubber, vinyl, which is a similar yet cheaper alternative, aluminum, and a number of other materials as well. Alternatives t o treads include non slip tape as well as the many coatings available which are anti-slip. Wood stair treads, for example oak stair treads, are not used to create a non slip surface; rather they are commonly used to cover less expensive building materials yet give the stairs the beauty of wood.
There are three main types of stair treads carpet:
The first is a continuous piece of carpet which covers the entire staircase. These are very popular today, and rarely cover the entire width of the stairs. They usually leave a little bit of the stairs exposed on each side. This is often for aesthetic reasons for example with hardwood floors to leave some of the beautiful hardwood exposed yet still provide a non slip surface.
The second uses small individual stair treads carpet on each step, much like mini throw rugs or mini carpet door mats. These might be glued or stapled to the stairs, or they may have non slip rubber surfaces and simply lay on the stairs. These have the advantage that they can be easily picked up and shaken out or cleaned. There are even some that plug into an outlet and are heated, which will melt ice or snow. These are often used outside and turned on when there is inclement weather.

The third type is very similar, braided stair treads, where each individual rug for each stair is a braided rug.
Stair treads carpet can range from simple and utilitarian, to expensive and beautiful. My wife spent probably a couple of hundred hours over a two year period choosing exactly the right carpet for our master staircase, and it shows!
